my review.

The novels Dune and Dune Messiah by Frank Herbert were an interesting read, in my opinion. That is because a lot of sci-fi anything or space related things tend to catch my attention the most. Other than that, I thought that the storyline is captivating. At some points while reading I couldn’t help but read more pages than I anticipated. What I wasn’t too fond of were the difficult names, Im horrible with names already and it didn’t help to have such odd names in the novels. But as a guide Frank Herbert included a glossary in the back of the book. Looking deeper into it, I noticed that the characters created their own social system, or caste system, just like how we have it today. Actually, more of how it used to be. It’s quite funny how Frank Herbert subliminally ties in drugs, and such into his story. For example, the rich, luxurious spice that the Baron is trying to get his hand on, can symbolize marijuana, cocaine or anything of that sort. It can also be oil, which can closely relate to one of the biggest issues going on today. The greed for oil. My favorite part of Dune, is the part when Paul starts to get smart and gets powers, because whenever he is under the influence of melange spice it intensifies it, just like any other drug.  That’s my favorite part because it’s like those movies you watch were kids would try anything and their first reaction are surprising.
