Final Words

This blog was mainly an english project, but I didn't treat it much like any project. I actually like blogging,  that reason being it was enjoyable for me.  I enjoyed my english class, although it was a drag to wake up in the crack of dawn and walk to campus. The environment is always nice, thanks to my fellow fifteen classmates and Professor Pessin. What stood out to me most was that there are many ways teachers proceed with their way of teaching, and fortunately, my Professor went about his lessons by relatings subject matters with fun interesting things. By interesting things I mean matters I actually care for, or could talk about, or things that relates to me. By changing it up, it not only made class funner or easier but made time fly.

Failing yet succeeding.

It was in friday night at the CSUN dorms, and a friend was having a countdown for her 18th birthday. But my roommates and I could't make it on time because we all had to study for something. Any who, since we were showing up late, we decided on making it special while we walk on. On our day down on the stair we started on planning, but we left an unfinished planned. As we arrived at their door, we still didn't have a clue of what to do, but rang the door bell anyway. We rang it twice before they heard and ask who it way. Being caught in the moment someone said it was the RA. Then they asked again, and we said it was the RA again. While this was happening there was thumping noise inside, and we were wondering what it was. Then they finally answered the door and screamed, THAT WAS YOU GUYS?! YOU JUST MADE EVERYONE LEAVE! We were pretty embarrassed. We found out that the thumping noise we heard was the party hopping over the balcony. So pretty much they were kinda angry at us, but they forgave us. except these group of guys that  kept bringing it up because were really butthurt. Being the good people we were we went into our friend's dorms to tell them to go back to the party. Anyway, we sure made a special entrance, except we we scared the whole party away.

Happy Spring

I felt just as jolly as the rabbit. In the first panel the raccoon weren't quite sure what the all the noise was, and the comic goes on a Jolly Ol Rabbit appears to be hopping around singing. The music notes brings the vibe up, just like the change of season. Especially spring, have to love spring. As the comic proceeds to the third panel and raccoons finally realize that it is spring. Im not quite sure if thats a good thing or bad for animal likes raccoons, but one thing i know is i enjoy this season. I hope they join along with me and the rabbit in celebration of the new season !

talent.

http://youtu.be/RlCMOUAvD_A

My special little talent is making clothes and adding my own twist to it from simple clothes. i've actually been doing this for as long as I could remember. I would just sit in my room and have the urge to do it. My mom always got mad at me for doing it, but I think inside she ends up liking the end product. I actually have many more at home, but for this video I shared some projects that I had with me.

Summaries.

“History and Historical Effect in Frank Herbert’s ‘Dune’” written by Lorenzo DiTommsa takes on focus more on how Frank Herbert sees how humans are. He points out issues like Fuedalism and technology, search for humans, but what stood out was prescient history. This section takes more on the issue of Paul having “recurring cycle of consciousness jumps.” It lists from his first jump to his final jump. During his last jump he begins to lost control of his consciousness, but unfortunately the little spice of what he left was not going save him. Which goes back to people depending on spice, but too much is bad. They caught into the idea of being “the One” and seeing the future that they ruined themselves.

“Plants on Dunes” written by Martin L. Cody shortly talks about the environment, the traits, and the similarities of these plants at Dune compared to ones in Earth. He goes on talking about how the plants needed to the harsh environment of Dune. Like Root-borne shoots are also found in Herbaceous weeds in Mediterranean. What disappoints him is how Herbert failed to include numbers and statistics in his description of these plants.

“The Monomyth as Fractal Patter in Frank Herbert’s Dune Novels” is written by Donald Palumbo, who believes that environment holds the power. That being said he goes on to mention how in Frank Herbert’s saga a sandworm has the power to ruin any technology made by humans. This goes back to the issue of how spice has power over any one who consumes it. That is, whoever consumes the melange they will likely to become addicted/dependent on it and eventually cause their own death. In the end who has power? The spice.

Outline

Book: Dune
Author: Frank Herbert

Introduction: I will start my essay by introducing the books followed by the author. Pitch in something a little interesting about that book that will catch the reader. I'll include something that'll talk about the book along the lines, so the book won't be given away. The thesis will also be included in the introduction. For these specific books my thesis would be how being dependent on something, can be what ruins you in the future.

Body: Each body paragraph will perhaps be including different things, for example: the first paragraph will most likely to include introducing the books. Laying down information such as, setting, characters, protagonist, antagonist, and a short/concrete descriptions. which will lead to talking more about the book.
the second paragraph will be dealing with giving an insight on the book. Talk a little about the plot and the major points on the books.
By the third body paragraph ill introduce the thesis once again as my topic sentence. An example will be included to support the topic sentence. Which will be in between the lines of, how the human dependent on spice but it was actually harmful.
Next body paragraphs will go in depth about how it started, where, and how it's not good. How they controlled the availibity and which ways they tried to stop will also be included.

Conclusion: all that will transition to a fast but defined summary about the body of the paragraphs. The thesis will be stated again but worded different. After all that, an invitation to read the books will top in off.

my review.

The novels Dune and Dune Messiah by Frank Herbert were an interesting read, in my opinion. That is because a lot of sci-fi anything or space related things tend to catch my attention the most. Other than that, I thought that the storyline is captivating. At some points while reading I couldn’t help but read more pages than I anticipated. What I wasn’t too fond of were the difficult names, Im horrible with names already and it didn’t help to have such odd names in the novels. But as a guide Frank Herbert included a glossary in the back of the book. Looking deeper into it, I noticed that the characters created their own social system, or caste system, just like how we have it today. Actually, more of how it used to be. It’s quite funny how Frank Herbert subliminally ties in drugs, and such into his story. For example, the rich, luxurious spice that the Baron is trying to get his hand on, can symbolize marijuana, cocaine or anything of that sort. It can also be oil, which can closely relate to one of the biggest issues going on today. The greed for oil. My favorite part of Dune, is the part when Paul starts to get smart and gets powers, because whenever he is under the influence of melange spice it intensifies it, just like any other drug.  That’s my favorite part because it’s like those movies you watch were kids would try anything and their first reaction are surprising.

cuts.

We’ve been raised to know that education is one of the most important PART of life, that way we’ll prioritize it first. As if that’s not hard enough, the government continuously cut the CSU schools budget. Why is does that make it more hard than it should be, you might ask? well, that’s because with all the other expenses that tag along, tuition has sky rocketed to over three thousand dollars. Money like that don’t come across very easy. Even through the help of financial aid and loan, it can still be stressful with the thoughts of paying it back and what not.
This semester there is a 15 unit cap per student, this does not only limit the classes they can take, but worse it will take longer for a student to graduate. “However, even without the newly imposed unit caps, CSUN first-time freshmen take, on average, 5.6 years to earn their degrees, according to CSUN's Institutional Research's 2010-11 data.” Before this new budget cut was proposed students were informed that not many students graduate in the expected four years as how it’s always been. This is a little discouraging because as a first time freshman, I came into a four-year college expecting to graduate in four years. Not only did I expect this, so did my mom. Although, this isn’t a choice I had much to do with, I don’t know how to explain it to her without thinking less of me.This only puts more pressure to work hard and use my time wisely.
As a first time freshman, I get the benefit of having priority registration- even this priority it was still a hassle to get the classes I really need. After this year, it will only get harder to enroll for the appropriate classes; well any classes at that. What I need to do to avoid being in that position is take part in programs that offer students priority registration.
Going back to being told to always prioritize education, it seems to me that government don’t give enough to something so important. What I’ve always wondered was, why they spend so much money on things as irrelevant as spending hundred of thousands putting rocks and decorating the side of the freeways, rather than schools which will definitely affect a person.
Although CSUN is occupied by 34,000 students, next school year the $700+ million budget cut will lower that by 2,000+ students. Not only that, the enrollment number will also decrease due toover enrollment. This scares me a great deal because I wouldn’t know what I would do if, God forbid, i am one of the 2,000 students. My family and I put a lot on the line for me to attend college. That would break my heart, but more theirs. They expect me to get something out of college, and I don’t want to let them down as bad as not being to continue school.
If it were up to be, i’d definitely not go forth with the proposal. There’s other insignificant things that the state can cut, in favor of the students who seek better and successful futures.
